Insights from PaperWeek (Montreal) 2013: Awards, Trends, etc.

PaperWeek in Montreal, Canada was very well attended and showed optimism about the Paper Industry.  I am going to highlight some interesting things I picked up:
Wayne Bichard

* The F.G. Robinson Award for exceptional service by a Technical Committee Chairman is presented to Wayne Bichard, FPInnovations, Chairman of the Standard Methods Committee.

* The winner of the Mill Manager of the Year Award was Jim Blight, General Manager, Domtar, Dryden Mil, Ontario.

* There are over 120,000 pulp and paper workers in Canada over the age of 50.

* The CEO of Tembec, Jim Lopez, pointed out that Tembec is one of 3 companies that represent about 70% of the specialty cellulose market in North America (this does not include dissolving pulp).

* The PaperWeek Tissue Seminar: New Technologies and Innovation Updates in Tissue was led by Stéphan Larivière, FPInnovations, and Ivan Pikulik, Consultant. It was well attended and showed technologies such as Emtec's Tissue Softness Analyzer (TSA).

I'll be posting some interesting data/trends from RISI in a future post.
