TAPPI (Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry), founded in 1915, has grown into the world’s largest professional association serving the pulp/paper, nonwovens, converting and packaging industries. Being named a TAPPI Fellow is quite an accomplishment. Less than one percent of TAPPI’s members have this title. It is a designation given to individuals who have made extraordinary technical or service contributions to the industry and/or the Association.
Technidyne Corporation was founded in 1974 by current Chairman, Jerry Popson. The company which is still family-owned and operated, specializes in laboratory and process control equipment for the Pulp and Paper Industry. Todd Popson worked various jobs in Production, Service and Engineering at Technidyne while in high school and college. After graduating from Purdue University in 1991, he spent time in Engineering, Quality and Sales departments before being named President in 1999. Todd was later named CEO in December 2006.
Within TAPPI, Todd has been an active member since 1992. He Chaired the Optical Properties Committee for 5 years, and has been a member of the Process & Product Quality Division Leadership for 5 years. He also participates in the Physical Properties Committee, Tissue Properties Subcommittee, Quality & Standards Management Committee, Standards Advisory Review Group, PaperCon Steering Committee, and Papermakers Technical Program Committee. Todd has authored several technical articles and served as a technical editor on submissions to TAPPI Journal. He is a US Expert to ISO Technical Committee 6 and member of US Technical Advisory Group to TC6, PAPTAC Standard Methods Committee and liaison to CIE (Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage). Todd is involved in many other industry organizations as well as local charities, school and church committees.
Under Todd’s leadership, Technidyne Corporation has sold equipment into 60 different countries around the world and presented optical properties seminars in approximately 30 different countries. Technidyne was the 2006 recipient of the Excellence in Export Achievement Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Technidyne’s calibration standards laboratory is the only ISO Level III Authorized Laboratory in the United States for the issuance of optical standards for the Paper Industry and is the largest such laboratory in the World.
In recent years, Technidyne has been recognized by Greater Louisville Inc. as the International/Global Small Business of the year for 2013 and was a finalist for the 2014 Tri-State Family & Private Business Award.
Mr. Popson will be honored at the PaperCon 2015 Conference in Atlanta, GA, April 19-22, 2015.
